Artist's Statement

In this series, I explore dynamic energetic patterns found in nature. The spiral and the vortex appear repeatedly at the macro and micro levels. These powerful forces are found in the shifting geomagnetic flux surrounding our planet, weather patterns, and movements of water, fire, and solid rock. The “Force of Nature” series, employs rhythmic groupings of linear elements that expand and contract. In place of brushes and paint, I used magnets to move iron filings that allow me to discover unexpected compositions that I photographed and edited.

My multi-disciplinary practice includes painting, photography, mixed materials and installation.Photographs have received awards from the “International Photography Awards” juried exhibitions in 2016, 2018, 2019, 2021 and 2023. Work has been included in National Geographic exhibitions and shown internationally in individual, juried, and group exhibitions. In 2014, I collaborated with Carol Tikijian on “Draw the Line”, a multimedia installation at Gallery 25 that employed colored light, sound and text to express concerns about the effects of climate change. Locally, my work has been exhibited at the Fresno Art Museum, Spectrum Gallery, Gallery 25 and Arte Americas. In Europe, my work appeared in the ARTBOX.PROJECT World 2.0 at the Urbanside Gallery, Zurich Switzerland in 2022 and Artboxy - Art Expo 2024 in Paris at Galerie Agnes Nord.
