Membership:
Artists may apply for membership by submitting a written statement of philosophy plus a portfolio of work presented either by slides or actual pieces (not less than 10 individual works). Members discuss the art and vote on the applicant. A majority vote is required for approval. New members pay a one-time initiation fee, which includes first and last months’ dues plus a $10.00 initiation fee. The new member is then responsible for duties as a regular member.
Dues and Initiation Fee:
A new member pays an initial fee of: the first month dues and 3 months closing dues, one sitting fee, plus key deposit.. Members who are delinquent in payment of dues will, after one month in arrears, receive a warning from the Vice-President. A member who is two months in arrears will be dropped from membership with an official notification from the Vice-President.
Sitting:
Each member is responsible for sitting at the gallery one day out of every two months. Those who do not choose to sit will pay an additional fee to cover the costs of reimbursing a paid sitter at the prevailing minimum wage rate. This gallery fee will be paid to the treasurer with the member’s monthly dues. The gallery’s credibility is weakened when a member misses a sitting commitment so IT IS ESSENTIAL THAT THE GALLERY IS OPEN DURING THE STATED GALLERY HOURS. A fine of $20.00 is levied against members who miss their sitting date. For those members who only occasionally need a substitute sitter, a list of approved sitters is included on your membership list.
Exhibiting:
Priority for exhibitions is reserved for members. Non-member artists may be invited to exhibit by a majority vote of the membership. Individual member artists who wish to collaborate with a non-member artist must receive the approval of the membership. At the end of each exhibit the artist(s) exhibiting will return the gallery to its original condition. New members must wait six months before having a one-person exhibit.
Installation of Exhibits:
Artists are responsible for hanging their own exhibits. The exhibition committee hangs group shows. All group show pieces must be ready for installation with wire on wall pieces, etc. Extremely fragile or difficult-to-install pieces may require the individual artist’s help in installation for group shows.
Invitations:
Exhibiting artists design and pay for the invitations as well as the mailing costs for their own exhibits. Participants in group shows share the invitations’ costs equally and extra mailing individually. Non-member artists invited to exhibit do not pay for mailing to the established gallery mailing list. Additional invitations may be bulk-mailed with the artist paying the additional cost.
Publicity:
It is the responsibility of the exhibiting artist(s) to provide for the publicity for the show (except in the cases of group shows or invitationals). Press releases may be submitted one month prior to the exhibit to Donald Munro at the FRESNO BEE. Follow-up phone calls to Mr. Munro are important. Gallery 25 has a calendar listing in both ART WEEK and ARTSCENE and individual members are eligible for inclusion in both these publications with the following requirements being met: 10-12 weeks prior to your exhibit send slides or photos of about six pieces of your work, a resume and statement with a cover letter to: ART WEEK Preview Editor, P.O. Box 26340, San Jose, CA 95159-6340. Tel. 800-733-2916 ARTSCENE submissions should be mailed 8 weeks prior to exhibit to P.O. Box 2029, Thousand Oaks, CA 91360-2029.
Protection of Art:
Gallery 25 is not responsible for damages or loss of art work by members or non-members while exhibited or stored at the gallery. A written release of responsibility is required of each member and each non-member exhibiting.
Leaves of Absence:
Members may request a leave of absence to extend from 6 to 12 months. At the end of that time, the member may re-apply for active status. Members on leave have no voting or exhibition privileges, are not responsible for gallery sitting, but continue to pay dues. An inactive member may reinstate his or her active membership by notifying the Board at which time he/she will resume full responsibilities and privileges.
Commission on Sales:
Commission on sales made by the gallery during an exhibition is as follows: 20% for members — 40% for non-members.
Membership Obligations:
Gallery meetings are held once a month at the Gallery. If a member cannot attend, the member is required to notify the President, Vice-President, or Secretary. A member wishing to retain active status will make every effort to attend a majority (seven) meetings a year. Meetings will alternate between business and informal critique.
Receptions:
Reception costs and materials are the responsibility of the exhibiting artist. The gallery is responsible for the cost of receptions for invitational exhibits. |
