The art pieces in my recent series, VINTAGE POP and VINTAGE POP:
SPACE, were created by digitizing vintage graphics, photos, toys, and
miscellaneous objects, which were then manipulated on the computer and
out put on canvas at a very large scale.
Part of how these images work can be found in their construction. Why
were the images chosen? Where were they found? Can seemingly unrelated
images from different time periods coexist visually, like they do in
memory? How is the concept of time expressed? Does the assemblage of
fragmentary elements from vintage pop culture create a sense of
nostalgia? I'm comfortable posing these questions within the context
of the work, yet leaving the answers unresolved and left up to the
viewer.
