Robert Weibel
Robert Weibel is a figurative artist and printmaker who has completed successful public art and performance projects. In 2003 Weibel left a career in middle management and began making art full time. He works out of his studio in central California, where he lives with his wife and two small dogs.
For several years he has developed and refined the creation of images by igniting gunpowder (after Cai Guo-Qiang). He has been described in press as “a pioneer in his explosive medium.” And his work has been called “stunning visually”. He continues to explore gunpowder art, and exhibited gunpowder drawings and variations, including collagraphs printed with residue from explosions at his solo exhibition at Gallery 25 in November 2009.
His gunpowder drawing was selected for a national exhibition juried by Mat Gleason at the Orange County Center for Contemporary Art in 2008, and he was included in the documentary “The Muse” by Wallace K. Boss in 2009. His work is increasingly well received and in collections nation wide.
In 2010, Weibel is scheduled to exhibit at the Kellogg Gallery, Cal Poly Pomona, Gallery 10,LTD in Washington, DC, and at the Milenium Hotel in Abu Dhabi, UAE. His projects include completion of site-specific images for 14 nine foot windows in the historic Warnor Theatre, Fresno, Ca.
