Jim Campbell
My recent work has been acrylic or oil on either paper or panel. I have been exploring the effects on humankind, climate, and our environment from the use of fossil fuels.
Throughout my life I have been drawn to rectilinear shapes, intense color, and strong imagery. My work has been a way for me to communicate ideas and feelings about the world I exist in (whether or not anyone else is interested).
In the early 1970’s, I was an art major at California State University at Fresno. My senior year, I quit school and went to work for the Southern Pacific Railroad. I worked as a switchman and brakeman for 15 years.
In 1988, I returned to CSUF, earned a B.A. in Liberal Studies and a multiple subject teaching credential. I taught in the Fresno Unified School District for 19 years. In my last assignment at Baird Middle School, I taught math, science, and PE to 6th graders, and a paper mache sculpture class to 5th and 6th graders.
I have recently retired and intend to pursue my work as a painter.
